Non-native species abound across much of Hawai’i. Our goal is to restore many of the native plants of the area within the Hamakualoa Open Space Preserve.
Ka Wai Ola – Water is life. This was an important concept to Hawaiians, and remains so everywhere.
The Hamakualoa lands supported a large population of people in previous times. It was a shared resource in the ‘ahupua’a system. Restoring the lands to a community asset is an important goal for us.
Malama Hamakua Maui is a non-profit organization supported entirely by grants and donations from individuals.
